Dr. Frank Van Gyn, as well as being an accomplished cosmetic
dentist, is a cowboy at heart. He comes by this naturally
as he grew up (some of us debate this ) in western Alberta.
He attended University of Alberta and graduated with a BSc.
in 1972 and a Doctorate of Dental Sciences in 1975. Throughout
university he was the star of his junior hockey team. Having
moved on from hockey, Frank now enjoys the game of golf.
After
graduation from dental school Frank spent 3 years as an
associate of a busy group practice in rural Alberta. Here,
he learned
to wire broken jaws together with clothes hangers! He has
since refined his techniques. (Ask him about this story
some time.. It's a good one)
In 1978 Frank moved to Victoria and made it his new home.
He married Geri, who has more letters after her name than
Frank could ever hope for. Geri Van Gyn has a PhD in both
psychology (she's been trying to figure Frank out now for
over 25 years) and physical education. Frank and Geri have
twin daughters Lindsey and Jill and another daughter Robin.
Outside the dental office Frank is one busy guy. Frank is
not only a good cowboy but also an avid sailor. He has been
an active member of the Victoria Yacht Club since 1981 and
twice sailed to Maui as a competitor in the famous Vic-Maui
race. During the spring Frank races Star sailboats. Frank
also enjoys Cat-skiing and his new found love, motorcycling.
Dr.Van Gyn has maintained a strong presence in the dental
community throughout his career. He was appointed president
of the Victoria and District Dental Society in 2000 for
a two year term. For several years Dr. Van Gyn presented
practice
management seminars throughout western Canada and USA.
He is certified through the Panky Institute (or as Frank
likes
to call it , the Hanky Panky Institute) of Advanced Dental
Education as a cosmetic dentist.
